Maxillofacial Surgery

Maxillofacial Surgery

Maxillofacial surgery is the specialty in charge of the diagnosis and surgical treatment of diseases, traumas or defects relating to the mouth, to the soft and hard tissues of the oral-facial region and to orthognathic surgery (corrective surgery of the jaw and face).

The following are some examples:

  1. Impacted molar and teeth extractions.
  2. Frenectomy is surgery where the lingual or labial frenulum (small fold of tissue that prevents an organ in the body from moving too far -in this case, the tongue or lip) is repositioned in such a way so as not to interfere with the movement of the tongue (this is also called tongue-tie surgery), nor with the correct position of the teeth.
  3. Biopsies.
  4. Exposure Surgery: This is a simple procedure where a small incision is made so that the impacted tooth can erupt.
  5. Bone remodeling.
  6. Ridge deepening.
  7. Intra-oral Abscess Draining.
  8. Other soft tissue surgeries.
